How Universal is a Construct of Loneliness? Measurement Invariance of the UCLA Loneliness Scale in Indonesia, Germany, and the United States

The UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-20) and its short version (ULS-8) are widely used to measure loneliness. However, the question remains whether or not previous studies using the scale to measure loneliness are measuring the construct equally across countries. The present study examined the measurement invariance (MI) of both scales in Germany, Indonesia, and the United States ( N = 2350).

Gods, Germs, and Science: Unraveling the Role of Scientific Literacy, Germ Aversion, and Religious Fundamentalism in Predicting Attitudes Towards Gays and Lesbians

Prior studies suggest that scientific knowledge may improve attitudes towards sexual minorities such as gays and lesbians. But in what context does this ring true? The present study aims to test whether scientific literacy can predict attitudes towards gays and lesbians when considering the variables pathogen avoidance and religious fundamentalism in a moderated moderation model. A total of 1,398 participants (female = 74.9%, M = 25.15, SD = 5.84) completed the online survey.

Chastity Value as a Risk Factor for Prostituted Adolescents in Indonesia: A Qualitative Exploration

Previous studies suggest that the practice of female child and adolescent prostitution can be attributed to various personal and social risk factors. However, cultural beliefs shared in specific societies may also determine prostitution involvement. We qualitatively explored the risk factors associated with prostitution in a rarely investigated Indonesian society. We interviewed eight female participants who were involved in adolescent prostitution.

Development of an Employee Grit (E-Grit) Measurement: Dimensionality, Convergent Validity, and Reliability

Grit is a psychological concept that can explain the relationship between individual characteristics—such as intelligence and personality—and one’s work performance. General life-domain grit measurements have been developed over the years. Specific life-domain grit measurements are essential because of individual differences in resource allocation among many aspects of life. The current study aimed to develop a context-specific measurement of work-employee grit—the Employee Grit (E-Grit) measurement—based on the Triarchic Model of Grit (TMG).

    The Diary of Claire Skye

A collection of poems and rants from the traumatized mind.

Life after trauma is like an endless maze filled with the things you fear the most, lurking in every corner, waiting to jump out at you.

You're just wondering, but never really knowing:

      Is there a way out?

      Will I ever find it?
